Power of attorney from Bulgaria for use in Ukraine: prepare it around the task

Are you in Bulgaria while documents, an application or property matters need attention in Ukraine? Start with a precise list of actions. Proper certification cannot compensate for missing authority.
Before signing, identify the professional or institution that will accept the document in Ukraine. Agree the wording with the receiving notary, bank or other institution.
Ukrainian consulate or Bulgarian notary
A Ukrainian citizen abroad can approach a Ukrainian diplomatic or consular office or a foreign notary. A power of attorney certified by a Ukrainian consul for use in Ukraine requires no additional legalisation or translation. Check appointment arrangements and document requirements with the chosen office.
If using a Bulgarian notary, agree the document’s form, translation and recognition requirements in advance. Additional authentication depends on the applicable international agreements and document type. Do not automatically order an apostille without checking which rules apply.
What to include
Prepare accurate details of the principal and representative, the identifiers needed for the procedure and relevant property information. Distinguish authority to sign applications, collect original documents, dispose of property and receive money.
Do not grant unnecessary powers simply because a template includes them. Check names, addresses and document numbers against the underlying records. The consul or notary determines the final documents needed for certification.
Attendance and use in Ukraine
Drafting and reviewing the text can take place remotely. Standard consular certification requires the applicant’s personal attendance. Do not sign beforehand unless instructed by the certifying official.
Before sending the document, confirm whether the original is required. A scan can help with an advance review but does not replace the original in every procedure. Certain categories require registration in Ukraine’s Unified Register of Powers of Attorney. Agree the registration steps before using the document.
A power of attorney cannot delegate an act that the law requires a person to perform personally. In inheritance matters, distinguish assistance with documents from a personal declaration that the heir must make.
