Buying property: questions before signing
Topics to discuss with a specialist before making financial commitments.
Define the transaction
Note the property address, type, seller details and construction stage. Gather the draft contracts and documents provided by the seller. Marketing material is a useful introduction but does not replace checks.
Discuss documents and terms
Ask a specialist to determine the scope of ownership, encumbrance and seller-authority checks. Discuss the price, payment schedule, deposit, possession, liability and repayment arrangements in the circumstances covered by the contract.
Consider costs after purchase
Request information on complex maintenance and management, utilities, shared areas and existing obligations. Payment arrangements and amounts should be checked against the documents for the particular property.
Agree on support
Clarify who reviews documents, contacts the seller, arranges translation and prepares for the notarial process. A general checklist alone is not a basis for a decision: the checks depend on the property and transaction.
